Christopher L. Walters

Associate

Christopher L. Walters is a litigation and trial attorney dedicated to representing shareholders, employees, consumers, and small businesses in complex litigation.  He has extensive discovery experience, including motion work and leading a discovery team, and has achieved several jury trial victories for his clients.

Before joining Robbins Umeda LLP, Mr. Walters was a partner at Troutman Sanders LLP (formerly Ross, Dixon & Bell LLP), where he focused on complex civil litigation, labor and employment, antitrust, False Claims Act, and financial services matters.

Mr. Walters earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Southern California.  During law school, Mr. Walters was on the staff for the Southern California Law Review and received the American Jurisprudence Award for Torts.  He also served as research assistant to Alexander Capron, professor of healthcare law, policy and ethics.  Mr. Walters graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, with Bachelor of Arts degrees in Integrative Biology and Religious Studies.

Selected Noteworthy Cases

  • Carbon Fiber False Claims Act Litigation, United States ex rel. Beck v. Hexcel, No. CV 05-3372 FMC (RNBx) (C.D. Cal.):  Mr. Walters served in a leadership role in the litigation of a case involving allegations of a price-fixing conspiracy among the world's largest carbon fiber manufacturing companies.  Mr.  Walters, helping to represent four private citizens as relators, also known as whistleblowers, was instrumental in the discovery and litigation of the case and helped negotiate a settlement of more than $75 million, one of the largest recoveries by private citizens under the False Claims Act without the federal government's intervention.
  • Carbon Fiber Antitrust Litigation, Horizon Sports Tech., Inc. v. Newport Adhesives and Composites, Inc., No. 02-CIV-8216 FMC (S.D. Cal): Mr. Walters served as a lead attorney in the antitrust action alleging price-fixing and agreements to allocate customers among the world's largest carbon fiber manufacturing companies.  Mr.  Walters litigated the case aggressively for several years, including extensive discovery, and helped achieve a successful settlement of the plaintiff's claims.  The settlement involved each of the world's largest carbon manufacturers, including those companies who did not sell carbon fiber to the plaintiff.
